Interestingly, the goddess of love is also the goddess of war, which shows how complex and multifaceted her nature is. She rides a chariot pulled by two cats and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty when it comes to a fight. Freyja is Queen of the Valkyries, a group of female warriors who serve Odin, the chief of the Norse gods.
The duality of Freyja’s character is in line with a theme often found in Norse mythology, which is the merging of seemingly opposing ideas. In this case, Freyja represents both the nurturing and protective aspects of love, as well as the fierce and fearless nature of battle.

Let’s start with the simplest fact. Since she is associated with venomous creatures, one of Serket’s areas of expertise is toxins and poisons. In Ancient Egypt, she was invoked to safeguard against scorpion stings and snake bites, and her image was used on protective amulets to ward off these dangers.
Serket is often seen as a witch goddess because she presides over the liminal space between life and death. She is known as the goddess who gives a baby their first breath of life, but also as the one who gives the kiss of death. This makes her very powerful in the eyes of those who practice witchcraft, as she holds sway over the most transformative moments in the human experience.
Isis – the Mistress of Magick
Isis, also known as Aset, is another Egyptian goddess. One of her titles is the Mistress of Magick, and she is much-loved by witches worldwide.
She was born to the sky goddess Nut and the earth god Geb, which gave her a strong connection to both heaven and earth (ie the spiritual and the material worlds) granting her powers in the realms of magick. She further developed her abilities through her determination and knowledge, learning the secrets of powerful spells and healing techniques.
Her most famous act was collecting the pieces of her husband Osiris after he was killed and torn apart. With her magical skills, she was able to bring him back to life for a short time and even conceive a child with him. This act showed her incredible magical abilities and her deep love for Osiris.

Her most famous encounter occurs in the Greek epic “Odyssey” when she transforms some of Odysseus’s crew into pigs after they land on her island. Odysseus, with the help of the god Hermes, resists her enchantments and ultimately persuades Circe to release his crew.

Proceed with some caution before you work with her, though. While she can be kind and willing to help us mortals, she isn’t always predictable and may have her own agenda. Respect her power and boundaries, or she may just turn you into a pig!
