The Day of the Dead – Día de los Muertos – tradition has always understood something that a lot of western culture is only just catching up to: that death isn’t the opposite of life, it’s part of it. The sugar skull is a celebration of that. Bright colours, flowers, beauty – not in spite of mortality but because of it. There’s a reason this imagery has resonated so deeply across so many different spiritual paths and aesthetics. It hits something real.

This particular piece is a small, solid resin tealight holder, around 4 inches tall, with sculpted roses and hand-painted features in rich reds, warm yellows and deep greens. She has character. She looks like she’s been somewhere.
